Capitalization


  • Capitalize the first letter of the first word in a sentence.
  • Capitalize people's name.
  • Capitalize the word I
  • Capitalize calendar items:
    • Days of the week.
    • Months of the year
    • Holydays and holy days
    Do not capitalize seasons
  • Capitalize place names:
    • Parts of the world
    • Countries and sections of a country
    • States and provinces
    • Counties
    • Cities and towns
    • Streets,
    • Islands,
    • Mountains
    • Bodies of Water: Golf of Mexico Structures and public places
    Do not capitalize the when it appears before a name (except:The United States, The United Kingdom, The...)
  • Capitalize the names of races, nationalities and languages.
  • Capitalize special events. Labor Day
  • Capitalize historical events and periods in history.
  • Capitalize the names of business firms and brand names of business products.
  • Capitalize the names of organizations:
    • Government bodies
    • Political organizations
    • Associations
  • Capitalize the first word and all important words in: Titles of books, plays, movies, TV shows magazines, newspaper, stories, poems, works of art, and pieces of music.
  • Capitalize names referring to the one God of a religion and their followers, and major religious writing.
  • Capitalize course names followed by a number and languages courses.
  • Capitalize East, West, North, and South. When they refer to recognized sections of the country or of the world (Not as geographical directions)
