Semicolon ;

Put a dot (.) over the comma (,) in order to obtain a semicolon (;)

Use a semicolon:
  • To avoid confusion where commas are already used in a sentence
  • To separate units of a series when they contain commas
  • After independent clauses and before the expressions: However, then, thus, so, hence, in fact, in truth, that is, therefore, . . ..
  • Between two independent clauses when the conjunction is omitted
  • Between two sentences joined by a conjunction but already have one or more commas within the first sentence
  • After a complete sentence and before introductory words when they are followed by a list of three or more items (For fewer than three items, simply enclose them in commas.)
