Nikola Tesla

Nikola Tesla

A very special engineer

At home, I have 60 Hertz AC outlets to choose from. 240 Volts for my stove and my dryer, and 110 Volts for any other use. All this is due, first of all, to Nikola Tesla, the main forger of the transport of electrical energy in alternating current. I have to thank him. My acknowledgments also to all these experienced engineers who have largely contributed to the development of electrical engineering. On the occasion of his birthday, I want to show my gratitude to him. For the service rendered to humanity, I pay tribute to him.

Nikola Tesla is an American inventor, engineer and physicist. He was born on July 10, 1856 in Smiljan in the present Croatia. He died on January 7, 1943 in New York, USA.

Despite his genius, Tesla never graduated from university. After a checkered academic career in Europe, he arrived in the United States in 1884. He worked with Thomas Edison and then with George Westinghouse.

He is recognized as one of the most creative engineers of the 20th century. He made a very important contribution in the development of alternating current, its transport, and the distribution of electricity. In all, Tesla filed some 300 patents covering a total of 125 inventions.

Tesla is the author of the asynchronous electric motor, the polyphase alternator, the three-phase star assembly, and the commutator. Here is an example of his invention, the Tesla coil. His idea is to have a transmitter tower with a strong electromagnetic field, so that anywhere on the globe can get a receiver circuit.

This experience has above all a theoretical and pedagogical interest. From a practical point of view, today it is used to make special light effects in the world of entertainment and the reproduction of musical recordings.

In 1960, the name tesla (T) was given to the international unit of magnetic induction. In 2003, referencing Nikola Tesla, the innovative electric car manufacturer Tesla Inc. was created.

Of Serbian origin, his burial place is in Belgrade, Serbia, in the Nikola-Tesla Museum.

Nikola Tesla died on January 7, 1943 in his hotel room in New York, alone, penniless and covered in debt, leaving behind him more than 300 patents and the reputation of a genius and visionary scientist.

Title:
------

Nikola Tesla, a very special engineer.. After a busy life and the filing of some 300 patents covering a total of 125 inventions, he died in a hotel room in New York, alone, penniless and covered in debt, neglected by history, leaving behind his patents, reputation as the inventor of alternating current, and as a genius and visionary scientist.

During the War of the Currents, a series of events surrounding the introduction of competing electrical power transmission systems in the late 1880s and early 1890s, alternating current (AC) – favored by Tesla – s is beaten for wide acceptance with direct current (DC), favored by Edison. At stake was the basis of the entire nation's electrical system. Edison launched a campaign against AC, claiming he was dangerous and could kill people; Tesla responded by publicly subjecting himself to 250,000 volt shocks to demonstrate the safety of alternating current. In the end, AC won the fight.
