Calculus I:
functions of several variables
Introduction

Introduction

We have seen that there are functions of a single variable. They are not alone to represent natural phenomena, however. For examples: the area of a rectangle of length x and width y is: f(x,y) = x * y;

the average speed v(x,y) = x/y depends on the distance traveled x and the time y.

In this chapter, we will study the functions of several variables. We will pay particular attention to the functions of two variables because in this case we can still make drawings.

Then we will do calculations of derivatives. This will be used to perform calculations of uncertainty as well as to find the extrema (maximum, minimum) of a function of several variables.
