1. What is a server?

A server is a computer designed hardware or software to process requests and deliver data to another computer over the internet or a local network.

The word «server« is not only a web server where web pages can be accessed over the internet through a client like a web browser , like Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc..

However, there are several kinds of servers and even local ones like file servers as localhost or that store data within an intranet network.

Email Servers facilitate the sending and receiving of email messages.

An email client like Mozilla Thunderbird on a computer is the software that is connected to an IMAP or POP email servers to download messages to the computer, and an SMTP server to send messages back to the email server.

There are also FTP Server. FTP servers are accessible remotely via FTP client programs, like FileZilla.

Hundreds of different types of server support computer networks.


2. What is proxy server?

A proxy server is a dedicated computer or a software system running on a computer that acts as an intermediary between an endpoint device, such as a computer, and another server from which a user or client is requesting a service.

proxy means the authority to represent thing else.

A proxy server is a computer material that acts as an intermediary between the user's computer and the Internet. It allows client computers to make indirect network connections to other network services.

In other words, proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application) that acts as an intermediary for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers.

In the enterprise, a proxy server is used to facilitate security, administrative control or caching services, among other purposes. In a personal computing context, proxy servers are used to enable user privacy and anonymous surfing.

Does my computer use a proxy server?

On Windows, Click the «Connections» tab in the Internet Options window. Click the «LAN Settings» button.
• If there is a check mark in the box next to the «Us a proxy server for your LAN» option, then your PC accesses the Web through a proxy server.
• If there is no check mark in the box, your computer does not use a proxy server.
