Originally, PERL was Pearl, now it stands for Practical Extraction 
and Report Language. Perl was developed by Larry Wall in 1987. It 
is an interpreted, dynamic scripting and programming language. 
Mainly under Unix, this scripting language makes report processing 
easier. Perl comes with modules, the CGI module is part of Perl’s 
core.

In addition to The common gateway interface (CGI), kind of bridge 
between Perl and a browzer, Perl is used for system administration, and 
other applications.
