1. Forme canonique

La forme canonique de la fonction racine carrée est :

\[ \bf\Large \textit y = \textit f(\textit x) = \textit a\sqrt {\textit b(\textit x - \textit h)} + \textit k \] Le paramètre b peut sortir de la racine carrée et l'on a:

$\bf b \ge 0 \quad \Rightarrow \quad D_o = [h, + \infty [ \qquad y = a_1 \sqrt{(x - h)} + k$
avec   $\bf a_1 = a\sqrt b$

$\bf b \lt 0 \quad \Rightarrow \quad D_o = [- \infty, h [ \qquad y = a_1 \sqrt{ - (x - h)} + k$
avec   $\bf a_1 = a\sqrt{ |b|}$

2. Forme fonctionnelle

Une autre forme de la fonction racine carrée est:
